Ysgol Glannau Gwaun entered a squad of 10 pupils from years 4, 5 and 6 for the Fishguard area Urdd Netball tournament.  Following some brilliant victories against Letterston and Holy Name we came 2nd overall. Only losing once to eventual winners Ysgol Bro Ingli.

In March, we entered 3 teams into the Ysgol Bro Gwaun Transition Netball tournament. After the performances in the previous Urdd tournament we were very hopeful of some impressive results. Team 1 was drawn in group A, winning every game with relative ease to progress to the semi final as the group winners. Unfortunately with team 2 and 3 being drawn in the same group as a strong Casmael team there was only one space in the semi finals available which team 2 took by winning that decisive game.

Unbelievably, these results meant that Ysgol Glannau Gwaun had two teams in the semi finals. Unfortunately, it meant that they had to play against each other and one of the teams would go no further. Team 1 managed to win the close game and set up a showdown with Ysgol Casmael, winners of group B, in what turned out to be a thriller.

Ysgol Glannau Gwaun started the final in style and opened up a 2 score lead. But as expected Casmael quickly halved the deficit, equalised and then managed to take the lead. With time running out, we showed great courage to come back and force extra time with the final shot of the game. Amazingly, after a game full of points from both sides, extra time flew by without a single point being added. We then entered ‘golden point’, in which the next point would win the game. Eventually, after a sustained period of pressure, Ysgol Casmael scored that winning point and Ysgol Glannau Gwaun team 1 had to settle for second place.
