Marvellous Machines

Our topic for this half term is Marvellous Machines.

We are going to be looking at different types of machines in our homes, school, outdoors and around us.

Week 1.

We have been learning about online safety and using HWB to create digital art.

In our number work, we have been counting forwards and backwards using a number line and ten frames and also have enjoyed spraying numbers around the school grounds.

Week 2

Finding machines around school and using a blender to make fruit smoothies!

We learnt about doubles, and used Hwb to create some digital art. We ended the week with Pen Disco, in which we practised drawing straight lines.

Week 3.

We have been making robots using Numicon, practising our positional language by playing bingo and creating obstacle courses outside and we have planted our sunflower seeds and talked about what they will need to grow. Who will grow the tallest sunflower?

This week in Pen Disco we practised drawing circles.

Week 4.

This week Robert Mitchell, British high jump champion came to visit us. We listened to the story Little Miss Inventor and the Robots and talked about the robots we would like to make! We had lots of junk materials to make our robots and could not wait to get started! Look how tall our sunflowers are growing! After learning about Mrs Armitage and her bicycle we decided to create a vehicle shop so that we could practised coin recognition and using coins to buy items.

Week 5.

This week we have been learning about Queen Elizabeth and the Platinum Jubilee. We have made our own crown and had a special afternoon tea. We have completed our fantastic robots and recorded ourselves talking about our Bots using Hwb. We used our fine motor skills to create diggers for the sandpit, and had to use small screwdrivers! As we had been talking about money we listened to Abba singing 'Money, money, money' in Pen Disco this week! We have been finding out about patterns in our number work, and used musical instruments to create patterns, as well as objects and colours, and tried to guess what came next in the pattern.

We had a day of celebrating being Welsh, and were visited by a Welsh author called Rhiannon, Mrs Hedydd Hughes who taught us some Welsh folk dances and introduced us to the Mari Llwyd, and met Randal from Morfa Milk who brought some delicious milkshakes for us to taste!

Miss Youngs has displayed our Bots on the class wall, they look amazing!
